At the end of August 2025, at Mutiara Beach Pier, two Indonesian-made electric vessels, the ELECTRO E–Pilot Boat and the Saalima08, were officially launched by PT Kapal Listrik Internasional, a local technology-based maritime company focused on developing environmentally friendly electric and hybrid vessels. This marked a declaration of a new direction for the Indonesian maritime industry, a response to future energy challenges and a commitment to mastering clean technology. Since 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic shook the world, PT Kapal Listrik Internasional has embarked on a long and courageous journey to develop maritime technology innovations based on renewable energy.
The ELECTRO E–Pilot Boat and Saalima08 electric vessels symbolize this vision. Designed with zero-emission technology, they simultaneously address two major challenges: dependence on fossil fuels and the impact of climate change. This innovation paves the way for cleaner, more efficient, and more affordable maritime transportation. Not only do electric vessels reduce carbon emissions, they also offer lower operating costs, simpler maintenance, and very minimal noise levels. These advantages make them relevant not only for logistics and inter-island transportation, but also for developing the marine tourism sector, one of Indonesia's greatest assets. Several local partners are involved, including Tanoto Shipyard, Sam Horison, PT Tehnik Kapal Indonesia, and Aruna Studio Marine Design & Consultant. Electric ship technology offers the opportunity to significantly change this efficiency landscape. Distribution costs can be reduced, supply chains become more efficient, and consumer product prices can be more controlled.
