The Indonesian government has expressed its commitment to enhancing cooperation with the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations humanitarian organization that provides food aid. According to a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Rome, Italy, received in Jakarta on Wednesday, Indonesian Ambassador to the WFP, Junimart Girsang, stated that the Indonesian government is committed to enhancing its partnership with the WFP in addressing malnutrition and stunting in children. Ambassador Junimart, while presenting his letter of credence to WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain in Rome, Italy, on Tuesday (September 2nd), also expressed the Indonesian government's desire to enhance cooperation with the WFP in distributing humanitarian aid.
In this regard, the Indonesian government has committed to channeling US$3.5 million in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan through the WFP. "I am optimistic that, amidst current global challenges, the Indonesia-WFP partnership will continue to progress and become even more strategic going forward," said Junimart. WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain expressed her appreciation for Indonesia's increasing role and contribution to the WFP. She also expressed her support for Indonesia's candidacy for membership on the WFP Executive Board for the next term. In addition to serving as Indonesia's ambassador to the WFP, Junimart serves as Indonesian ambassador to Italy, San Marino, Malta, Cyprus, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT). On Friday (August 29th), Junimart presented his credentials to the Vice-Captains of San Marino, Denise Bronzetti and Italo Righi. He expressed his hope that bilateral relations between Indonesia and San Marino in various fields, including trade and tourism, would be further strengthened. Junimart presented its letter of credence to Italian President Sergio Mattarella on July 17, 2025 and presented its letter of credence to FAO on August 6, 2025.
