On September 2, 2025, Aprisindo Chairman Eddy Widjanarko stated that the Indonesian footwear industry is in a very stable position, suggesting the potential for continued growth in the US market, despite the slight increase being modest. The Indonesian Footwear Association (Aprisindo) is targeting a 10% growth in national footwear exports by the end of this year. The US and European markets continue to be a source of optimism for businesses. Eddy Widjanarko also stated that the US is a significant market for Indonesian footwear products, accounting for approximately 25%-26% of total exports, while the European Union accounts for 27%. From January to July 2025, the Indonesia Statistics (BPS) reported that exports of footwear (HS 64) to the United States totalled USD 1.57 billion, accounting for 8.77% of all non-oil and gas exports to the United States during this period. This represents a 22.65% increase on the same period last year, when exports totalled USD 1.28 billion.
Prior to the implementation of US tariffs in August 2025, the value of footwear exports continued to grow. Furthermore, the European market may be considered to be increasingly open, as the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) is expected to be finalised this September. Total footwear exports to the European Union reached USD 1.72 billion last year. However, Aprisindo has not yet provided data on European countries that are export destinations for this year. Nevertheless, the association anticipates a 10% increase in Indonesian footwear exports to the US and Europe this year. At present, the increase stands at 8% year-to-date.
