In addition to palm oil and its derivatives, as well as rubber, Indonesia recorded non-food agricultural commodity exports reaching USD 10.38 billion in 2024. Bank Mandiri Chief Economist Andry Asmoro assessed that agricultural commodity exports have a significant potential to support the national economy, given the continued strong global demand for this sector. Furthermore, the agricultural sector only recorded growth of around 2%. According to Bank Mandiri Institute data, Indonesia's total agricultural exports in 2024 reached USD 10.38 billion, or approximately 1.0% of the total global agricultural export value of USD 1,043.2 billion. Several leading Indonesian commodities even have a significant global market share. Cloves account for 51.7%, nutmeg, mace, and cardamom 17.8%, cinnamon and its flowers 13.5%, cocoa butter 12.2%, and fruits and nuts 8.6%.
In terms of value, the commodities with the largest export contribution in 2024 were cocoa butter, valued at USD 1,682 million, followed by coffee at USD 1,638 million. Then, bread and pastry products cost USD 998 million. Meanwhile, coconuts were recorded at USD 598 million and processed vegetables at USD 475 million. Therefore, according to Andry, if agricultural exports grow consistently by 5% per year, the resulting added value will have a positive impact on the national economy.
