Tiger prawn (Penaeus monodon) has clearly established itself as the powerhouse of East Kalimantan’s fishery exports. As of July 2025, prawn exports generated IDR 164.4 billion out of the IDR 256 billion total raised by fisheries exports, constituting approximately 64% of Kaltim’s export value in the sector. The dominance of this premium product is rooted in its consistently high quality and pricing benchmarked in US dollars, reinforcing its status as a strategic export resource.

Beyond tiger prawn, other notable export earners include pink shrimp (IDR 49.3 billion), white prawn (IDR 13.7 billion), fresh white pomfret (IDR 10.6 billion), and fresh grouper (IDR 7.9 billion). These figures highlight Kaltim’s emerging reputation as a key supplier of aquatic protein to international markets across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Despite production challenges in the past, the sustained popularity and premium status of tiger prawn underline its vital role in the province’s strategy to elevate its fisheries export footprint globally.
