Indonesian fisheries and seafood products have once again achieved impressive results in the global market. At the 27th Japan International Seafood & Technology Expo (JISTE) 2025, held at Tokyo Big Sight, Japan, from August 20–22, 2025, Indonesia achieved potential transactions worth USD 128.51 million, or approximately IDR 2.06 trillion. More than 80% of this value was contributed by key commodities such as shrimp, seaweed, and tuna and tuna products, which were the star attractions of the Indonesian Pavilion. The Director General of National Export Development at the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, Fajarini Puntodewi, stated that this achievement was not only a trade achievement but also evidence of the strong trust of the international market, particularly Japan, in Indonesian seafood products. "The positive response from Japanese buyers demonstrates great optimism for strengthening Indonesia's position in the global supply chain," he said.
At the exhibition, which featured more than 1,000 booths from 19 countries, the Indonesian Pavilion stood out, featuring 15 fisheries businesses across a 72-square-meter area. Products on display included shrimp, octopus, squid, crab, fresh tuna, cuttlefish, seaweed, and diversified value-added products. According to Miftah Farid, Director of Primary Product Export Development at the Ministry of Trade, participation in JISTE 2025 is a strategic step to expand market penetration and promote product diversification. Indonesia's success at JISTE 2025 is measured not only by potential transactions, but also by economic diplomacy. Maria Renata Hutagalung, Charge d'Affaires ad Interim of the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, emphasized that Indonesia's involvement strengthens its trade diplomacy position with Japan.
