Indonesia and Saudi Arabia to Enhance Trade Cooperation

Indonesia and Saudi Arabia are poised to strengthen their trade ties following a virtual meeting between Indonesia’s Trade Minister Budi Santoso (“Busan”) and Saudi Arabia’s Trade Minister Majid bin Abdullah Al-Kassabi. In 2024, bilateral trade reached approximately US$6.6 billion—Indonesia exported goods worth US$2.6 billion, while imports stood at US$4.4 billion. In the first half of 2025 alone, trade tallied US$3.2 billion, with exports at US$1.7 billion and imports around US$1.5 billion. Indonesia’s main export items include motor vehicles, palm oil, light vessels, sauces and their processed products, as well as iron pipes; imports from Saudi Arabia consist of crude and non-crude petroleum, petroleum gas, acyclic alcohols, and sulfur.

Both trade ministers highlighted that there's still ample room to deepen economic engagement. Possible avenues for expanding cooperation include organizing business delegations, participating in trade exhibitions, and leveraging Indonesia’s trade representative in Saudi Arabia as a liaison between business communities. They also plan to meet in person alongside the upcoming G20 Ministerial Meeting in October to advance these discussions further
