On 26 August 2025, a press conference for the Kick-off Indonesia Economic Summit (IES) 2026 was held at the Fairmont Hotel Jakarta. IES 2026 is a designated forum for discussions on economic trends, energy transition, talent development, and the direction of Indonesia's future policies. The event will take place on 3-4 February 2026 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta, featuring more than 100 speakers and 1,000 global business leaders. The Indonesian Business Council (IBC) CEO, Sofyan Djalil, has announced that the IES 2026 forum will serve as a pivotal platform, aiming to consolidate the trajectory of development towards the Indonesia Emas 2045 vision. He stated that this forum aligns with President Prabowo's vision of achieving the '08' target, which is aimed at reducing poverty to zero while promoting 8% economic growth. Sofyan emphasised that inclusive growth is the only way to achieve these two goals. The overarching objective of this forum is to promote economic inclusiveness.
The IES 2026 discussion session will feature experts, government officials and business practitioners, as parties who are highly influential in economic development. IES 2026 emphasises inclusiveness and competitiveness. Sofyan said competitiveness requires regulatory support, cost efficiency and ease of doing business. Moreover, human capital is important, and Indonesia needs human capital that meets industry needs and is adaptable. Furthermore, technology and infrastructure were identified as key factors contributing to competitiveness. Another key concern was the need for market diversification to maintain Indonesia's competitiveness in the global market. Sofyan highlighted Indonesia's economic development model, Indonesia Incorporated, which emphasises cooperation among all components. This concept emulates Japan's success in harmoniously collaborating with the government and businesses to boost economic competitiveness at the domestic and international levels. IBC is part of this concept, and its implementation will facilitate the achievement of national goals, such as achieving Indonesia Emas.
