The Head of the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla), Vice Admiral Irvansyah, stated that his agency will collaborate with the Vietnamese Coast Guard in maritime border patrols. Irvansyah explained that this collaboration is being developed to strengthen each coast guard's ability to protect maritime areas from intruders and the entry and exit of illegal goods. "We are also exploring the possibility of conducting coordinated patrols," Irvansyah said after receiving a visit from the Vietnamese Coast Guard aboard Ship CSB-8001 at the Nusantara 01 Pier, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Monday. Irvansyah continued, explaining that the technical aspects of this patrol cooperation will be discussed in a meeting between Bakamla and the Vietnamese Coast Guard in the coming days.
In addition to patrol cooperation, Bakamla will also collaborate on other activities, such as joint training, personnel exchanges for educational purposes, and several other activities. Irvansyah hopes that this collaboration will strengthen Bakamla's ability to protect Indonesian and ASEAN maritime territories. He also hopes this collaboration will strengthen diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Vietnam. For the record, the Vietnam Coast Guard is visiting Indonesia aboard the CSB-8001 vessel. The Vietnamese Coast Guard delegation will be in Indonesia from today until Friday (August 29th). Several activities will also be carried out by the Indonesian Coast Guard and the Vietnamese Coast Guard, including joint sports activities, courtesy calls between Bakamla and the Vietnamese Coast Guard, joint training, and cultural tours by the Vietnamese Coast Guard representatives in Jakarta.
