The Comprehensive Trade Agreement (CEPA) between Indonesia and Peru now opens the door for Banten's leading products, such as footwear, textiles, motor vehicles, and refrigeration, to gradually penetrate the Latin American market. Trade Minister Budi Santoso stated that the CEPA is designed as a framework that allows for the gradual elimination of tariffs to zero percent, with the potential to increase bilateral transactions from USD 480 million to Indonesia's surplus of USD 181 million in the previous period.
More importantly, Peru could become a distribution hub for Indonesian products to the South American regional market, as Indonesia also has other trade agreements with Chile. The fieldwork demonstrates that the CEPA opens significant new opportunities for Banten businesses, with its infrastructure, such as industrial parks and a strong footwear manufacturing base, to compete in the global market through this new access.
