Natuna Ready to Become Export-Import Gateway, Selat Lampa Receives Approval from the Ministry of Transportation

The Ministry of Transportation has officially approved Selat Lampa Port in Natuna Regency, Riau Islands, as an export and import port, a significant milestone for the development of Indonesia's border economy. The port is capable of accommodating vessels up to 10,000 GT and is the first open feeder port in the region. However, to operate optimally, Selat Lampa still requires supporting facilities such as a terminal and the presence of relevant agencies such as Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQP). These facilities are currently being designed in the Destination and Expedition (DED) by the central government to ensure export-import operations are realized soon.

Natuna is taking this step with a grand vision: to establish the region as an integrated maritime economic zone and a direct gateway for international trade. Regent Cen Sui Lan expressed her hope that Selat Lampa will provide direct access for superior commodities such as seafood and agricultural products without having to go through other ports like Batam. The Riau Islands Province also fully supports this, hoping that this port will stabilize local staple food prices while also opening up distribution opportunities to Kalimantan and Sulawesi, making it a strategic export-import hub with a multiplier effect on the economy of Natuna and the surrounding area.
