Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi is encouraging increased cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore in the transportation sector to strengthen connectivity, logistics efficiency, and sustainable economic growth for both countries. "We are committed to continuing to strengthen collaboration between Indonesia and Singapore, especially in the transportation sector," said the Minister of Transportation in his remarks at the 60th Anniversary of Singapore's Independence Day celebrations, as stated in Jakarta on Friday. This cooperation is evident in one of the important achievements of the Flight Information Region (FIR) agreement, signed in 2022 in Bintan and effective from March 2024.
This agreement returns airspace management over the Riau Islands and Natuna Islands to Indonesia, with technical transition support from Singapore. Ten Indonesian personnel are currently stationed at the Singapore Air Traffic Control Center until 2028 as part of civil-military cooperation in air traffic management. In the shipping sector, the two countries strengthened collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoC) on Port State Control and Flag State Control in October 2023 in Singapore. The agreement establishes a communication and information exchange mechanism related to vessel surveillance, detention, and synchronization of national regulations. Furthermore, cooperation in maritime human resource development was extended through the signing of an MoU in Bali in February 2025, paving the way for joint education and training in the maritime sector. Both countries are also active in multilateral cooperation, particularly within the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Indonesia and Singapore have agreed to support each other's candidacy for Category C membership in the IMO Council for the 2026–2027 period, strengthening ASEAN's position as a driving force for peace and sustainable development.
