Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi continues to push for the accelerated development of Tanjung Emas Port in Semarang and Batang Multipurpose Port. This is to boost investment and the economy in the province. "Central Java must have the driving force to improve the economy," Luthfi said during an audience with the Sub-Regional Head of Pelindo Java, Purwanto Wahyu Widodo, and the Port Association at his office on Friday (August 22, 2025).
He added that the existence of ports plays a crucial role in supporting logistics distribution from the industrial sector. He stated that the condition of ports in the province is crucial, especially as industrial areas in the province continue to develop and the number of industries is also increasing.
The Governor explained that the port in Batang is currently under development and will soon be operational to support investment in the Batang Special Economic Zone (KEK). Furthermore, rail logistics transportation for containers will also be implemented with a maximum timeframe of one year. "This must be expedited. I have instructed the Regents and Mayors to create additional areas. This port is crucial. I will discuss this in more detail with the President Director of Pelindo," he said. Meanwhile, Purwanto Wahyu Widodo, Sub-Regional Head of Pelindo Java, stated that Governor Ahmad Luthfi has directly requested Pelindo to continue improving ports in Central Java to ensure smooth logistics flows. These include Tanjung Emas Semarang and the operational readiness of the Batang Multipurpose Port. "We will complete the administrative and licensing process for Batang Port this August. Hopefully, it will be operational in September," he explained. Purwanto explained that the Batang Multipurpose Port will currently serve one customer, PT KCC. The South Korean company requires faster logistics access to transport raw materials from Bangka Belitung to its factory in the Batang Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
