On 21 August 2025, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita inaugurated the export of shoes from PT Yih Quan, with a value of USD 100,000 to the United States and USD 60,000 to Australia, at the Integrated Industrial Zone in Batang, Central Java. This export was carried out by Nike Inc. as the brand holder, collaborating with 50 factories in Indonesia, 20 of which are footwear factories. This export represents a significant milestone, demonstrating the robust capabilities of Indonesia's footwear industry ecosystem, supported by a collaborative effort between the government, industry leaders, the Batang Industrial Zone, the Aprinsindo Association, and global buyers such as Nike. The export of Converse shoes to the United States is also an important symbol of the sustainability of exports to that market. In 2024, exports to the US reached USD 1.03 billion, which is nearly 50% of Indonesia's total footwear exports to the US. In 2024, Nike Inc. exported over 200 million pairs of Nike, Converse and Jordan shoes to global markets.
This achievement is expected to encourage other industry players to continue innovating, maintaining quality, and strengthening Indonesia's position as a global footwear production and export hub. The Ministry of Industry encourages the expansion of Indonesia's footwear product market into South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, while continuing to contribute to job creation, export growth, and inclusive economic development. Exports in the footwear industry have also shown a positive trend, reaching USD 3.77 billion in the first half of 2025, representing a growth of 13.6% compared to the previous year. The Ministry of Industry continues to support the footwear industry through creating a business-friendly climate, investment, strengthening zones, expanding access to non-traditional markets, including fair trade negotiations, and promoting sustainability. Furthermore, businesses in labour-intensive sectors can utilise the Labour-Intensive Industry Credit Programme (KIPK).
