AIGIS 2025: The Minister of Industry Stated That Green Industry Transformation is Key to National Competitiveness

On 20 August 2025, the 2nd AIGIS summit was held at the JCC in Jakarta. The event brought together thousands of participants from various stakeholder sectors, strengthening national commitments and cooperation networks, and generating various Green Industry initiatives. At the AIGIS 2025 event, the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, stated that the transition to a green industry is an urgent step for Indonesia to maintain its competitiveness in the global green economy. The Minister highlighted the following four factors driving the transition to green industry: global consumer demand for environmentally friendly products; green financing prioritising ESG-based projects; government policies through a decarbonisation roadmap, fiscal incentives, investment facilitation, and resource efficiency regulations; and global trade mechanisms such as the European Union's CBAM.

In order to achieve the net-zero emissions target for the industrial sector by 2050, the Ministry of Industry is currently implementing a pilot project on Carbon Capture Utilisation (CCU) based on hydrometallurgy at PT Petrokimia Gresik. In addition, the ministry is exploring the use of microalgae as a carbon capture solution that can produce biomass, green hydrogen, and cosmetic raw materials. Furthermore, the Head of the Agency for Industrial Standards and Services (BSKJI), Andi Rizaldi, has stated key approaches the industrial sector needs to take to support this goal. These include integrating clean technology, energy efficiency, water efficiency, renewable energy, and circular economy practices into a mutually supportive green industrial ecosystem. Furthermore, several of the green industry policies currently being prepared include measures to strengthen Green Industry Standards (SIH), integrate the Digital MRV System (Monitoring, Reporting, Verification), develop an Emission Trading System (ETS) for the industrial sector, develop GISCO, and enhance industrial human resource capacity through green competency certification and reskilling programmes.
