The Trade Minister Made a Strategic Move to Enable Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises to Sell Their Products in Retail and Mall Environments

On 20 August 2025, during the launch of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah/UMKM) Branding and Packaging Strengthening Programme at the Ministry of Trade Building, Trade Minister Budi Santoso revealed that food and beverage products from UMKM are already of a good quality, with 80% of their products entering modern retail. UMKM products now possess a substantial market presence, with the majority of UMKM demonstrating preparedness to export to multiple countries. However, the Trade Minister acknowledged that many UMKM products, especially in rural areas, have not yet penetrated modern retail due to the lack of proper standardisation. In order to ensure products meet global standards, existing products will be standardised, designed and branded.

Furthermore, the Minister of Trade stated that many new UMKM products have successfully been exported, with transactions reaching USD 90.4 million or approximately IDR 1.4 trillion, and 70% of these UMKM had never previously engaged in exports. The Ministry of Trade continues to collaborate with modern retail associations such as the Indonesian Retailers and Shopping Centre Tenants Association (HIPPINDO), the Indonesian Shopping Centre Management Association (APPBI), and the Indonesian Retailers Association (APRINDO) to enable UMKM products to enter more modern retailers and access export markets.
