On 20 August 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, met the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Johann Wadephul, in Jakarta. During a joint press conference, Sugiono explained that Indonesia and Germany agreed to strengthen people-to-people contacts between the two countries. In addition, both parties explored the potential for streamlining visa processes for students, tourists, diplomats, and holders of official passports. Indonesia and Germany are currently in the process of developing regulations to implement this plan.
Sugiono confirmed that during the meeting, Indonesia and Germany reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening strategic cooperation. He believes that both countries have significant potential for collaborative development. With the existing opportunities for enhanced cooperation, the Indonesia-Germany partnership will grow stronger in the future.
