Trade Ministry Pushes Indonesia to Become a Key Player in the Global Gaming Industry

Indonesia’s Trade Minister Budi Santoso is steering the country's gaming sector into the international spotlight by leveraging Gamescom 2025—the world’s largest gaming expo in Cologne, Germany—to promote Indonesian talent and export potential. The national pavilion, occupying a 60-square-meter space, features showcases from ten standout studios—including Agate, Digital Happiness, and Busy Beaver Studio—and underlines the vibrant creativity and innovation within Indonesia’s game development scene. A robust schedule of 222 business meetings via the MeetToMatch platform aims to lay the groundwork for cross-border collaborations and expansion into global markets.

The initiative, orchestrated through interagency collaboration—from the Trade Ministry, ITPC Hamburg, and the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin to the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and the Indonesian Game Association—reflects a broader strategy to enhance national competitiveness. Director General Fajarini Puntodewi emphasized that the effort goes beyond mere promotion, aiming instead to build enduring partnerships and boost service exports. This push aligns with the growing global gaming market (forecast to reach USD 397.21 billion by 2029) and Germany’s expanding gaming sector (projected to grow from USD 5.35 billion in 2024 to USD 6.95 billion by 2027).
