Indonesia’s Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, emphasises that the agricultural sector is pivotal to the nation's transformation, urging young farmers to drive a globally competitive, modernised agriculture. Drawing from his journey, he shares life-changing business wisdom: “Want to be rich? Sleep less, communicate more, and endure pressure. Don’t focus too much on results; enjoy the process. Bankruptcy is the best teacher.” He underscores that success stems from focus and perseverance, encouraging youth to explore agribusiness opportunities and push agricultural performance forward.
Recent data from the Ministry of Agriculture (May 2025) reveals a positive trade outlook. In March 2025, agricultural exports reached 3.68 million tons worth IDR 65.72 trillion (a 13.7% increase year-on-year), while imports were at 2.50 million tons worth IDR 31.20 trillion. This resulted in a monthly surplus of 1.18 million tons and IDR 34.30 trillion. Cumulatively from January to March, exports totalled 10.32 million tons (IDR 181.14 trillion), imports stood at 7.59 million tons (IDR 93.59 trillion), yielding a trade surplus of IDR 87.55 trillion. Plantation products drove export growth significantly, though food crops, horticulture, and fresh produce still posted trade deficits.
