QRIS Transactions in Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand Reach IDR 1.66 Trillion

Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo announced that the total value of international Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) transactions in Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand reached IDR 1.66 trillion by June 2025. Perry Warjiyo stated in Jakarta on Sunday, August 17th, 2025, that the international QRIS collaboration with Thailand recorded 994,890 transactions worth IDR 437.54 billion since its launch in August 2022. The volume of QRIS transactions between Indonesia and Malaysia reached 4.31 million transactions worth IDR 1.15 trillion since its inauguration in May 2023. Meanwhile, the international QRIS collaboration with Singapore, launched on November 17th, 2023, recorded 238,216 transactions worth IDR 77.06 billion.

Perry stated that his office is committed to continuing to synergise with the payment system industry and the public to expand the use of QRIS, supported by the continuous development of innovative QRIS features and the expansion of cooperation both domestically and internationally. Previously, in a press conference on the results of the July 2025 BI Board of Governors Meeting, Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Filianingsih Hendarta stated that cross-border QRIS transactions continue to show positive developments. Filianingsih noted an increase in inbound transactions, particularly among foreign tourists in Indonesia, particularly those from Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. QRIS usage for digital transactions increased by 35% in various major tourist destinations, such as Bali, Yogyakarta, and Lake Toba. Meanwhile, outbound transactions by Indonesian citizens (WNI) travelling to these three countries experienced a slight slowdown. Today, coinciding with the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's Independence Day, Bank Indonesia is again expanding QRIS implementation to various countries outside Southeast Asia, such as Japan and China, which will start this month.
