Meeting with New Zealand Minister of Trade and Investment, Airlangga, Discussed OECD Accession Support and Bilateral Cooperation

On 7 August 2025, the Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, met with the New Zealand Minister of Trade and Investment, Todd McClay. Both parties encouraged the acceleration of the implementation of the 2025-2029 Indonesia-New Zealand Comprehensive Partnership Action Plan, as a step to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of trade and investment. As part of this action plan, Indonesia and New Zealand have renewed a joint commitment to increase the value of bilateral trade, setting a new target of NZD6 billion by 2029, up from the previous target of NZD4 billion by 2024. Furthermore, the ministers also emphasised the need to settle disputes on the import of horticultural products, animals and animal products, currently being discussed at the WTO. This will allow both nations to focus on other areas to strengthen economic cooperation.

Indonesia has also invited New Zealand to consider expanding investment in the dairy processing sector. The aim is to improve food security and nutrition for the community in a sustainable manner. Minister McClay stated that companies in New Zealand have the capacity and readiness to meet these needs in a sustainable manner. In addition, New Zealand fully supports Indonesia's efforts to accede to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). During the meeting, it was also discussed that the deregulation efforts are currently being made in various sectors in Indonesia. The Indonesian government is committed to creating legal certainty, streamlining business processes, and enhancing the competitiveness of the national industry in the future.
