South Sumatra Province (Sumsel) has once again demonstrated its dominance in the coffee export market. In the latest shipment, 19.8 tons of Grade 4 Robusta coffee from Pagaralam and Semendo were shipped to Malaysia via Palembang's Boom Baru Port, valued at IDR 1.2 billion. This significant increase is part of South Sumatra's total coffee export volume, which is expected to reach 127 tons by mid-2025. This represents a drastic increase from just 64 kilograms in 2023 and 19.8 tons in 2024.
The South Sumatra Quarantine Agency plays a crucial role in ensuring export quality and compliance, implementing strict quarantine processes and issuing Phytosanitary Certificates to avoid obstacles in destination countries. The Head of Quarantine, Sri Endah Ekandari, emphasized that efforts to maintain export quality are acrucial strategy for building the global reputation of South Sumatra coffee and expanding export potential to the global market.
