Indonesia Finalises First CEPA with North America

Indonesia has completed its first comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) with a North American country—Canada. The Indonesia-Canada CEPA (ICA-CEPA), finalized in just two years, is expected to significantly expand market access for Indonesian exports in the North American region. The agreement is set to be officially signed around September or October 2025, following the conclusion of negotiations in December 2024. A Joint Statement on its completion was signed by Indonesian Trade Minister Budi Santoso and Canadian Minister Mary Ng.

In addition to ICA-CEPA, Indonesia has also finalized the Indonesia-European Union CEPA (IEU-CEPA). This deal is designed to eliminate around 80% of tariff lines between the two parties, aiming to enhance bilateral trade and investment. The conclusion of this agreement was formally announced during a high-level meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels, highlighting Indonesia’s growing role in international trade partnerships.
