Ministry of Investment: 30% of Indonesia's Total Investment Derives from Downstream Investments

Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), revealed that downstream investment contributes approximately 30% of total investment in Indonesia, dominated by minerals, particularly nickel. The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming is promoting downstreaming across various sectors, including agriculture, palm oil, and the marine sector, specifically seaweed. Seaweed downstreaming is important and promising, as Indonesia is the second-largest global producer. This initiative also involves seaweed farmers across the country. These measures are expected to generate added value and enhance the quality of job opportunities.

In Q2 of 2025, the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM recorded investment realisation in the downstream sector at IDR 144.5 trillion. Investment in the downstream sector has been steadily increasing on an annual basis. This investment contributed 30.2% of the total national investment realised in the second quarter of this year, which totalled IDR 477.7 trillion. The largest contributions were from the mineral sector at IDR 96.2 trillion, the plantation and forestry sector at IDR 36.3 trillion, the oil and gas sector at IDR 10.7 trillion, and the fisheries and marine sector at IDR 1.3 trillion. Furthermore, the five leading locations for the realisation of downstream investment for both foreign direct investment (FDI) and domestic direct investment (DDI) are Central Sulawesi, West Java, North Maluku, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Java.
