Exports of South Sumatra Coffee to Malaysia Totalled 19.8 Tons in Value of IDR 1.2 Billion

On 4 August 2025, 19.8 tons of South Sumatra coffee with an export value of IDR 1.2 billion were exported to Malaysia via the Port of Boom Baru Palembang. This shipment is part of a strategy to strengthen the export ecosystem for local products and enhance competitiveness on the global stage. Prior to export, the coffee was subject to a series of quarantine measures implemented by the South Sumatra Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Agency (South Sumatra Quarantine Agency). These measures were implemented to ensure the coffee was free from any quarantine pests and met the requirements of the destination country. Officials conducted inspections and issued a health certificate (Phytosanitary Certificate) to prove compliance with international sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) standards. The Head of South Sumatra Quarantine, Sri Endah Ekandari, has stated that every agricultural commodity intended for export must meet the destination country's requirements and food safety standards.

Based on internal data from the South Sumatra Quarantine Agency, coffee exports from this region have shown consistent growth over the past three years. In 2023, coffee exports totalled 64 kg, in 2024, they reached 19.8 tons, and from January to mid-2025, they surged to 127 tons. This demonstrates the significant potential of the plantation sector in driving regional economic growth. Moving forward, the South Sumatra Quarantine Agency plans to promote South Sumatra coffee more extensively, including by developing a traceability system. As the largest coffee producer in Indonesia, South Sumatra has five regions contributing to its production, Pagaralam City, Muara Enim District (Semende), Empat Lawang District, Lahat District, and Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) South District. The South Sumatra Quarantine Agency will continue to prioritise the oversight of strategic regional commodities exports, delivering premium services and providing technical assistance in collaboration with relevant agencies, while also focusing on strengthening biosecurity systems.
