The government is relying on the packaging industry, which is considered resistant to global economic turmoil and uncertainty. In 2025, global economic growth is forecast to be limited to just 3%, influenced by increased economic activity through front-loading and the reduction of effective import tariffs by the United States. Notably, in 2022, the value of national packaging industry production increased substantially from IDR 87.6 trillion to IDR 93.2 trillion in 2023. This figure is predicted to continue growing to IDR 105 trillion by the end of 2025, driven by increased consumer spending, advancements in packaging technology, and the rapid growth of the pharmaceutical and e-commerce sectors. According to Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, this indicates that the global food and beverage industry is experiencing extraordinary growth despite various global challenges and threats.
During the inauguration of PT Lami Packaging Indonesia's first aseptic packaging factory in Indonesia, Airlangga further conveyed the export performance, which saw an increase in 2024, with the export value reaching USD 30 million. Meanwhile, the value of imports in the aseptic packaging industry reached USD 193 million. This indicates a significant market presence and potential for further production optimization in the packaging industry, which could lead to a reduction in reliance on imports. Airlanggha also commended PT Lami Packaging Indonesia's innovative approach to solar energy utilisation, with the company's solar panels boasting a capacity of 5.3 megawatts. The government is committed to the ongoing development of the industrial sector as a key driver of national economic growth, contributing significantly to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at 19.6%. The construction of this new factory is expected to generate significant benefits and stimulate growth in the food and beverage industry.
