The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that imports from January to June 2025 reached USD 115.94 billion, a 5.25% increase cumulatively (ctc), compared to USD 110.15 billion in the same period last year. "The total import value from January to June 2025 increased by 5.25% compared to the same period last year. The main contribution to this increase in import value was capital goods imports, contributing 3.61%," said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Pudji Ismartini, in a BPS release on Friday, August 1st, 2025.Pudji detailed that oil and gas imports decreased by 11.91% to USD 15.86 billion, compared to USD 18.01 billion in the previous year. Meanwhile, non-oil and gas imports increased by 8.60% to USD 100.07 billion, compared to USD 92.14 billion in January to June 2024.
Based on their use, the cumulative increase in import value occurred in raw materials/ auxiliary materials and capital goods. As the main contributor to the increase in imports, the value of capital goods imports reached USD 23.00 billion, an increase of 20.90%, with a share of 3.61%. "Imports of capital goods that saw significant increases were machinery or mechanical equipment and their parts, electrical machinery and equipment and their parts, and vehicles and their parts," he explained. Meanwhile, imports of auxiliary raw materials rose 2.56%, with significant increases in precious metals and jewelry or gems, cocoa and its processed products, and various chemical products. "Based on the main import destination countries and regions, the highest import value increases occurred in China, Japan, and ASEAN, besides Thailand." he explained. On an annual basis, imports in June 2025 reached USD 19.33 billion, a 4.28% increase compared to USD 18.54 billion in the same period last year. Pudji detailed that oil and gas imports reached USD 2.22 billion, a 32.07% year-on-year decrease, while non-oil and gas imports rose 12.07% to USD 17.11 billion. "The total import value increased year-on-year, primarily driven by the increase in non-oil and gas imports," he concluded.
