2 27,000 Imported Dairy Cows Enter Indonesia to Boost Milk Production

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono stated that 27,000 dairy cows have been imported into Indonesia to boost milk production. This year's target is to import 100,000 dairy cows. "We have 27,000 (dairy cows) now, out of this year's total import target of 100,000. We will do our utmost to achieve that," Sudaryono said while inspecting the Center for Superior Livestock Breeding and Animal Feed Production (BBPTU-HPT) in Baturraden, Banyumas Regency, on Sunday afternoon (August 3, 2025). "Importing dairy cows is not a government-sponsored initiative; we are encouraging both domestic and foreign private companies to bring live cattle into Indonesia. Sudaryono stated that the free nutritious meal program (MBG) has had a positive impact on domestic milk production. Baturraden itself currently produces 7,000 liters of milk per day. "Now, with the MBG, it's triggering domestic milk production, both by government agencies and the community," he explained.

He requested that all of the milk be absorbed by the MBG throughout Banyumas Regency. The Head of BBPTU-HPT Baturraden, Dani Kusworo, explained that his office is currently capable of producing 7,000 liters of fresh milk per day. Of that amount, 5,500 liters have been distributed to the community through cooperatives and milk processing industries such as Ultra and Cimory. "Thank God, we're now collaborating with three SPPGs (Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units) that supply President Prabowo's MBG milk program. We make two deliveries each week, on Sunday and Thursday, each delivering 3,500 bottles," he told reporters. "1 liter can be converted into 8 bottles. This means we can produce 40,000 bottles of milk daily," he added. Dani explained that one dairy cow can produce an average of 12-15 liters of milk per day. "The potential of our cattle is truly extraordinary. This year, the target is to produce 20 liters per cow per day. Of the 450 dairy cows we currently have, if we can achieve 20-25 liters per cow, then by 2026, milk production could reach 10,000-12,000 liters per day," he concluded.
