The national batik industry recorded a surge in exports of USD 7.63 million in the first quarter of 2025 up 76.2% compared to the same period last year, which was USD 4.3 million. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita described this increase as a strong signal that Indonesian batik is increasingly in demand, particularly among young consumers who favor modern motifs and the unique cultural aesthetics of the archipelago. This trend is also driven by product innovations such as eco-friendly batik and the digitalization of production processes to enhance efficiency and design diversification.
However, behind these positive achievements, the batik industry faces challenges in maintaining consistent quality and sustaining export market growth. The Ministry of Industry is intensifying its support through technical assistance such as creativity guidance, geographical indication facilitation, and production technology training. These strategic steps aim to enable batik to compete in the highly competitive global market while remaining sustainable and supporting the achievement of this year's export target of USD 100 million.
