Tons of Candlenuts from Bima Exported to Japan, First Time in 2025

Five tons of candlenuts from Riamau Village, Wawo District, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), were officially exported to Japan. The export shipment was officially launched by Bima Deputy Regent Irfan Zubaidy in Mataram City on Wednesday (July 23, 2025). In addition to the Deputy Regent, the export shipment of five tons of candlenuts to Japan was also attended by NTB Governor Lalu Muhammad Iqbal. "Five tons of peeled candlenuts are being exported to Japan," Irfan told detikBali on Wednesday afternoon. Irfan explained that this five-ton shipment of candlenuts to Japan is the first in 2025. This candlenut export is a breath of fresh air for Bima residents, encouraging them to plant candlenut trees on productive land. Besides preventing flooding and protecting springs, candlenut trees offer very promising yields. "Going forward, we will encourage candlenut trees to be planted among corn crops in several areas of Bima Regency," he added.

Azhar, Head of Plantations at the Bima Regency Agriculture and Plantation Service (Distabun), confirmed that the candlenuts exported to Japan were cultivated independently by residents of Riaumau Village and supported by Bank Indonesia (BI). "Besides independent cultivation, the candlenuts in Riamau Village are also cultivated by BI," Azhar admitted. Azhar added that Riamau Village is the only area in Bima Regency that produces candlenuts. Previously, they were in Donggo and Soromandi Districts, but they were cleared to make way for corn fields. "New candlenut trees are being developed in Parado District, but they are currently not producing," he concluded.
