The Minister of Trade, Budi Santoso, has confirmed that Indonesia will be importing agricultural products from the United States. This is as a result of a reduction in import tariffs from 32% to 19% that was granted to Indonesia by the United States. Indonesia has agreed to purchase agricultural products from the US worth USD 4.5 billion, equivalent to approximately IDR 73 trillion at current exchange rates (IDR 16,281). Budi confirmed that the purchase will be included in the trade agreement between Indonesia and the United States. Budi has confirmed that Indonesia is currently subject to a 19% tariff imposed by the US. Budi stated that the government is currently awaiting the completion of the administrative process for this policy.
Among the products imported by Indonesia from the United States are soybeans, soy milk, wheat, and cotton. This information was revealed by Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso. Susiwijono emphasised that the importers of these agricultural products are private sector entities, not the government, and that the imports are based on demand.
