On 23-24 July 2025, the Wondama Bay Festival 2025 takes place at Plaza Sarinah, Jakarta, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Aitumieri, a site of educational and social transformation for the Papua people. The festival agenda includes craft exhibitions, cultural performances such as traditional dances and local music, business and investment discussion forums for the development of Wondama Bay Regency, and a creative economy bazaar for micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM). Key objectives of these meetings included developing tourism in Wondama Bay and positioning it as the tourism hub of West Papua. The 2025 Teluk Wondama Festival is a strategic initiative aimed at fostering business opportunities and catalysing investment in key sectors such as agriculture, mining, and tourism. Given its status as a major hub for business, investment and policy-making, Jakarta was chosen as the ideal location for this festival.
This event marks a historic moment for the Papua people and the Indonesian nation, commemorating the struggles and legacy of Aitumieri as a symbol of change through education, spirituality, and active participation in regional development. The origins of the Papua civilisation can be traced back to the area of TelukWondama. The 2025 Wondama Bay Festival coincides with the 100th anniversary of Papuan civilisation, marking a step toward a brighter future and the success stories of the Papua people. The '100 Years of Aitumieri' press conference is part of the Wondama Bay Festival, which promotes and preserves local culture, with a particular focus on the traditions and wisdom of the Wondama Bay regency community. The press conference was attended by local government officials, traditional leaders, academics, and representatives of the Papua community. At the conference, discussions focused on the significant role of Aitumieri in shaping the character of the Papua People, and the importance of investing in human resources and developing local potential was reaffirmed.
