On 22 July 2025, Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya made an opening remark at the Food and Hospitality Indonesia 2025 event in Jakarta. In his statement, he highlighted the government's recognition of the culinary sector as a vital component of cultural expression and a catalyst for innovation. He also emphasised the significance of the hospitality industry as a pivotal service sector, underscoring its role as a crucial connector in modern economic experiences. The government is committed to supporting the advancement and growth of the culinary and hospitality sectors in Indonesia. These sectors offer considerable potential for both the domestic creative economy and the broader economy. Both sectors will be directed towards expanding job opportunities, fostering entrepreneurship, developing industries, and strengthening infrastructure.
According to data from the Ministry of Creative Economy, the food and beverage industry contributes 38% of the creative economy's gross domestic product, with 11,000 businesses and 7.6 million jobs. By 2024, it is projected that the value added by the creative economy will have increased by 119%, with exports rising by 67%. This data indicates inclusive growth, with the culinary sector driving domestic demand and export markets, making it one of the most competitive and promising sectors. The government remains committed to building an inclusive and competitive ecosystem through affirmative policies, digital information, business facilitation, and intellectual property protection. The Food and Hospitality Indonesia 2025 event saw the participation of over 300 companies from 33 countries, fostering a collaborative environment for entrepreneurs in the culinary and hospitality sectors. The event's primary objective was to serve as a conduit for business networking, facilitating the optimisation of potential and the expansion of market reach.
