PT. Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), as Pertamina's Upstream Subholding, remains committed to promoting national independence through energy self-sufficiency and a green economy. This commitment aligns with PHE's vision to become an energy company that prioritizes energy security, availability, and sustainability. PHE's Director of Strategic Planning, Portfolio, and Commercial Affairs, Edy Karyanto, stated that the demands for decarbonization from businesses and carbon offsets to achieve the Net Zero Emissions (NZE) target by 2060 represent a global dynamic that poses challenges for today's business players. In conducting its business, PHE implements a dual growth strategy by maximizing its legacy business by increasing upstream production while maintaining baseline production and investing in production increases. Another strategy is developing a low-carbon business through Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technologies.
Indonesia, according to Edy, has potential carbon emission storage capacity in saline aquifers and depleted oil/gas fields. "Furthermore, based on its geographical location, Indonesia is surrounded by emitting countries with NDC targets but no CO₂ storage capacity," he said. HE, Edy continued, plans to develop two CCS Hubs and several satellites with a storage capacity of up to 7.3 gigatons and a target of reducing emissions by 68 percent from the energy sector by 2060.PHE will continue to invest in managing its upstream oil and gas operations and business in accordance with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. PHE is also committed to Zero Tolerance on Bribery by ensuring fraud prevention and ensuring the company is free from bribery. One way to achieve this is through the implementation of an Anti-Bribery Management System (SMAP) that meets ISO 37001:2016 standards.
