The West Kalimantan Provincial Government is developing three districts-Landak, Sanggau and Sekadau-as green industry clusters and major food barns. The focus is on transforming leading sectors into low-carbon energy and environmentally friendly products. This is part of the five regional development clusters established by the provincial government, and is in line with efforts to harmonize economic development with ecological sustainability in various regions of the province. Through this approach, West Kalimantan aims to fulfill the Golden Indonesia Vision 2045 with an inclusive and green economic model that actively involves indigenous peoples, small farmers and the private sector.
In implementing this green economy, the provincial government prioritizes three strategic pillars: integrated forest management and strict spatial planning, cooperation with the private sector for sustainable supply chains, and low-emission and inclusive development. Since 2010, five Forest Management Units (FMUs) have been operating in five districts-including Sintang, Kapuas Hulu, Ketapang, Melawi, and Kubu Raya. In addition, West Kalimantan won a national award as the third ranked green and sustainable economy sector from KNEKS in 2024, the result of synergy between the local government and various stakeholders.
