Junimart Girsang Presents Indonesian Ambassador's Letter of Credence to the Republic of Italy

On Thursday, July 17th, 2025, a formal ceremony was held at the Quirinale Palace in Rome to mark the official appointment of Prof. Dr. Junimart Girsang as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Italy. During the event, Ambassador Girsang presented his Letters of Credence to Italian President Sergio Mattarella. According to a statement released by the Indonesian Embassy in Rome on Friday, July 18th, 2025, the ceremony began with the Ambassador’s procession from his official residence to the Quirinale Palace. The presentation of credentials signified the commencement of Ambassador Girsang’s official diplomatic duties in Italy. Ambassador Junimart Girsang was received by the Protocol Officer of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and accompanied by the Coordinator of Political Functions, Eko Himawan; the Coordinator of Protocol and Consular Functions, Silvia Juliana Malau; and the Defense Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Rome, Navy Colonel (P) Profidol Andre Mantiri Dotulung.

Upon arrival at the Quirinale Palace, Ambassador Junimart Girsang received a brief military salute as part of the customary state ceremony. He was then accompanied by the Head of Diplomatic Protocol for an audience with President Mattarella. During the warm meeting, Ambassador Junimart Girsang officially presented his Letter of Credence as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia. He also conveyed the greetings of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, along with the Indonesian Government's strong commitment to continue strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Italy in various strategic areas. This commitment is reflected, among other things, in strategic cooperation in the defense sector, including the purchase of two advanced frigates manufactured by Fincantieri, one of which, the KRI Brawijaya 320, was officially handed over on July 2, 2025. Furthermore, the Ambassador emphasized the importance of enhancing and diversifying trade, investment, and tourism relations between the two countries.
