Central Java Reviews Export Opportunities Amid Threat of US 19% Reciprocal Tariffs

The Central Java Provincial Government has begun preparing for the planned 19% reciprocal tariff from the United States that will be implemented as of August 1, 2025. Although the export of fishery products from this area is still going smoothly, Deputy Governor Taj Yasin stated that government officials and industry players cannot relax. As an anticipatory measure, they are exploring the opening of alternative markets-particularly in Europe-to cushion the negative impact of the US high tariff pressure and diversify export networks to keep trade conditions stable. To support this strategy, the Central Java Provincial Government together with the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office are actively socializing the importance of recording the location of fish catches and implementing other technical administrations-such as certification and tracking systems-so that regional products can meet the requirements of destination countries, especially the European market. Taj Yasin also emphasized the need to use a historical catch documentation system to ensure the quality and sustainability of fishery stocks. Such efforts are expected to strengthen the claims of Central Java products and facilitate access to new markets at the global level.
