Packaging not only serves as a physical protection for products, but also plays an important role in increasing the selling value and image of a brand. The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) emphasizes that packaging is one of the key factors in strengthening the competitiveness of Small and Medium Industries (SMIs), especially in facing increasingly competitive market competition, both at the national and international levels. Packaging that is attractive, informative, and in accordance with quality standards such as GMP, HACCP, ISO, SNI, and halal certification, can be the main differentiator between local products and similar imported products in the eyes of consumers.Recognizing the important role of packaging, the Ministry of Industry through the Directorate General of Small, Medium and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA) has built a Brand and Packaging Design Development Clinic since 2003. This clinic provides a variety of services, ranging from design consultations, training in the selection of packaging materials, to assistance in the label printing process in accordance with regulatory requirements and market trends. Not only that, the government also supports the capacity building of SMEs through the existence of dozens of Packaging Houses in various regions that have helped thousands of SMEs improve the quality of their product packaging.

This step is part of a grand strategy to encourage the transformation of SMEs to be more innovative and ready to compete globally. Through the support of professional packaging design, SMI products are expected to penetrate the export market and create a strong brand at the international level. Thus, packaging is no longer just a complement, but a strategic tool in encouraging economic growth based on local industry.
