Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti had a meeting with Timor-Leste's Minister of Trade and Industry, Filipus Nino Pereira. The meeting focused on ways to strengthen trade relations between the two countries. In the official statement, Dyah Roro Esti expressed her support for cooperation with Timor-Leste across various trade sectors and her openness to dialogue and collaboration with Timor-Leste. Roro noted that Indonesia and Timor-Leste share a close relation that can be further developed in a significant and sustainable manner. In 2024, total trade between the two countries reached USD 391.3 million, with an average annual growth rate of 15.56%. Additionally, exports amounted to USD 386.5 million, representing an increase of 13.6% compared to 2023, while imports decreased by 39.5% to USD 4.9 million. During the January–April 2025 period, Indonesia's exports to Timor-Leste reached USD 117.08 million. This figure represents an 11% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
The main export products from Indonesia to Timor-Leste include motor vehicles, palm oil, processed food, cement, pharmaceutical products, and daily consumer goods. Several commodities demonstrated notable growth, including light commercial vehicles, wheat flour, dairy products, and personal care products. Indonesian coffee is a product with significant potential in the Timor-Leste market. Roro also conveyed Indonesia's support for Timor-Leste's accession process to ASEAN. The Ministry of Trade has established a series of capacity-building programmes for Timor-Leste through the Memorandum of Understanding on Technical Cooperation in the Trade Sector (TCTS) for the period 2025–2028.
