On 13 July 2025, during a visit to Belgium, President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, held a meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The meeting was also attended by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and was held at the European Union Headquarters, Berlaymont Building in Brussels. The Coordinating Minister Airlangga also held a meeting with the European Union Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, Maroš Šefčovič, to agree on several key points as concrete follow-up measures in the conclusion of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) negotiations. Indonesia welcomes the political agreement that has been reached, marking an important milestone towards the completion of the IEU-CEPA in September 2025.
The Coordinating Minister Airlangga and Commissioner Šefčovič were also allowed to sign an exchange letter. This will serve as a guideline for accelerating the completion of the IEU-CEPA agreement. The IEU-CEPA agreement itself is expected to generate broader business opportunities, enhance legal certainty, and provide a strategic platform to deepen dialogue and cooperation on various important economic issues relevant today. The CEPA negotiation process has now reached the finalisation stage of technical issues, fine-tuning, and developing a more detailed timeline to achieve the ratification stage of the IEU-CEPA.
