PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk (KRAS) is expanding its market share to BRICS member countries by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Xiamen ITG Group Co., Ltd.-a Chinese company-and PT Dexin Steel Indonesia at the BRICS Innovation Base Industry Project Matchmaking meeting in Beijing, June 28, 2025. Through this strategic cooperation, Krakatau Steel is committed to supplying various steel products - such as slabs and Hot Rolled Coil (HRC) - to BRICS countries, as well as opening up cooperation opportunities in 12 major projects worth a total of more than 30 billion yuan (approximately US$4.18 billion) to support global steel sector innovation.
The move is in line with Krakatau Steel's market diversification and operational recovery agenda, especially after the Hot Strip Mill resumed optimal production. The company is focusing on financial restructuring and efficiency, while maximizing opportunities from Indonesia's membership in BRICS since January 2025. From a strategic perspective, the MoU is expected to strengthen supply chain resilience, increase market share in Southeast Asia and China, and support Krakatau Steel's transformation into a competitive global player.
