Riau Islands (Kepri) Province recorded a remarkable increase in the January-May 2025 period, with exports reaching USD 10.42 billion-an increase of around 34% compared to the same period the previous year-while imports were recorded at USD 9.56 billion, resulting in a trade balance surplus of USD 859 million. The surplus indicates a recovery in international trade activity in this maritime and logistically strategic region.

This surge in trade reflects Kepri's ability to capitalize on its geographical position and port connectivity to boost exports, particularly primary commodities and their derivative products. The USD 859 million surplus is a positive indication for increasing foreign exchange reserves and rupiah stability, while opening up opportunities for expansion of the downstream sector and more value-added export services.
