Batam City's export value in May 2025 reached USD 1,797.48 million, a 13.20% increase compared to the previous month (April 2025). This increase was driven by a surge in non-oil and gas exports, which rose 13.88% to USD 1,737.81 million. Conversely, oil and gas exports fell 3.63% to USD 59.67 million. The Head of the Batam City Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Eko Aprianto, stated that the increase in exports during May was primarily supported by the Machinery/Electrical Equipment (HS 85) category, which achieved the highest export value of USD 1,095.39 million. "The United States was the largest export destination, with a value of USD 590 million, contributing 32.82% of Batam's total exports during May," said Eko, Wednesday (July 9). In terms of loading ports, Batu Ampar Port recorded the highest export value at USD 1,324.38 million, followed by Sekupang Port (USD 279.40 million), Kabil/Panau (USD 128.37 million), and Belakang Padang (USD 60.46 million). These four ports contributed 99.73% of total exports in May 2025. Cumulatively, Batam City's export value from January to May 2025 reached USD 8,121.76 million, a 30.81% increase.
During the first five months of 2025, non-oil and gas exports continued to be dominated by electrical machinery/equipment (HS 85) valued at USD 4,112.29 million (52.89%), followed by mechanical machinery/equipment (HS 84) at USD 812.73 million, and ships (HS 89) at USD 590.95 million. Other commodities with significant contributions include iron and steel (HS 73), cocoa/chocolate (HS 18), and chemical products (HS 38). Interestingly, exports to the United States experienced a 62.05% surge compared to April 2025, and a 68.45% increase compared to May 2024. From January to May 2025, exports to the United States reached USD 2,102.60 million, followed by Singapore (USD 1,988.94 million) and Saudi Arabia (USD543.07 million).
