Expanding Export Markets, Indonesia Targets Africa Through Training and Trade Promotion

Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri revealed that Indonesia is currently continuing to expand its export market access to non-traditional markets, one of which is Africa. Efforts to expand the market in this region are also being undertaken through training and trade promotion. This effort is being carried out through the South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) on Trade and Investment Promotion for African Countries 2025. This program is a collaborative effort between the Center for Human Resource Development for Exports and Trade Services (PPEJP), the Ministry of State Secretariat, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Investment/BKPM. Roro explained that the SSTC on Trade and Investment Promotion for African Countries 2025 provides an opportunity for Indonesia and African countries to learn about each other's export and import opportunities. But beyond that, it's training in both import and export," she said.

In this training, in addition to studying market opportunities for each country, Roro also revealed that there will be follow-up on Indonesia's trade agreements with several African countries, such as the Mozambique Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) with Mozambique, which has been in effect since 2022. Furthermore, there is also the Indonesia-Tunisia Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between Indonesia and Tunisia, which has been under discussion since 2018. The countries participating in the South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) on Trade and Investment Promotion for African Countries 2025 include Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Tunisia. According to the Ministry of Trade, trade between Indonesia and Africa will grow by 7.4% in 2024, with total transactions reaching USD 2.4 billion. This transaction consists of exports of USD 792 million and imports of USD 1.6 billion.
