A potential Spanish investor is interested in investing in the planned development of an export port in Balong Village, Kembang District, Jepara Regency, Central Java, and has scheduled a visit to Jepara, said Jepara Regent Witiarso Utomo. "The visit from the Spanish investor is scheduled for October 2025. Last week, we communicated with the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and the potential Spanish investor through a virtual meeting. This virtual meeting aims to explore the potential for strategic cooperation, particularly in the areas of investment and maritime infrastructure development," Witiarso Utomo said in Jepara on Monday (July 7th). The virtual meeting was attended by the Secretary General of ASEMPEA, ASEMPEA Member and Director General of GEOMYTSA, Vice Chairman of the Kadin Bilateral Committee of Spain and Portugal, and several other Indonesian representatives, such as IGK Manila. One result, he said, is that potential investors are interested in the planned development of an international commercial port in Jepara and are scheduled to visit Jepara in the next four months.
On Friday (March 14th, 2025), Regent Witiarso Utomo met with the Spanish Ambassador to Indonesia, Francisco de Asís Aguilera, at the Spanish Embassy in Central Jakarta. Ambassador Francisco de Asís Aguilera then visited Jepara and inspected the prospective port site on April 29th, 2025. According to Witiarso, the prospective Spanish investor has a good reputation, as they are also developing several ports in Asia. The Jepara Regency Government is serious about seizing investment opportunities related to the development of this international-scale port. One effort has been to accommodate the area where the port is planned to be built in Regional Regulation No. 4/2023 concerning the Jepara Regency Spatial Plan (RTRW). In addition, the preparation of a feasibility study (FS) for the development of the international port was also carried out this year. The international commercial port in Jepara is planned to occupy 700 hectares of land.
