North Maluku Province recorded an impressive export performance from January to May 2025 with a value of USD 5.86 billion or around Rp 95.18 trillion. This surge was dominated by iron and steel exports which accounted for more than 95% of total exports, placing the sector as the main motor of the regional economy. Compared to the same period the previous year, the value of Malut's exports grew significantly and is evidence of the success of the development of mining-based industrial areas that continue to grow in the region.
This achievement reflects the strategic role of North Maluku in the national metal industry supply chain while opening up opportunities to strengthen downstream to boost value-added exports. The local government is expected not only to focus on quantity, but also to start encouraging product diversification and the development of processing industries so that exports do not depend too much on one commodity. With proper management, North Maluku has the potential to become a highly competitive metal export center that can support inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
