BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and the Ministry of Creative Economy Collaboration to Protect Creative Economy Workers

BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and the Indonesian Ministry of Creative Economy have signed a significant memorandum of understanding. The agreement was signed by the Director of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Pramudya Iriawan Buntoro and the Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya. The memorandum of understanding encompasses employment, social security protection and the development of the creative economy sector for creative industry players throughout Indonesia. Teuku Riefky emphasised in his remarks the importance of protecting creative workers, the majority of whom are in the informal sector, to ensure they have job certainty and security. According to 2024 data from the Indonesia Statistics (Badan Pusat Statistik/BPS), the creative economy sector employs 26.47 million workers, with 50% of those workers under the age of 40. Over the past five years, the creative industry has seen an annual influx of 1-2.5 million new entrants, reflecting its status as a highly sought-after sector among young professionals.

Furthermore, Teuku Riefky emphasised that this agreement will be implemented at the regional level to strengthen the creative ecosystem through the establishment of Regional Creative Economy Agencies, enabling collaboration within the Hexa Helix framework. This framework involves government, business, academia, community, media, and legal and regulatory elements. This initiative is expected to provide valuable support to local governments in the development of sustainable creative industries. The Director General of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, stated that this collaboration is a concrete manifestation of the shared commitment to protect creative workers from various workplace risks. Socialisation and education will be conducted to ensure that creative industry practitioners understand the importance of social security protection. Through this collaboration, it is anticipated that a greater number of creative economy practitioners will be safeguarded, empowering them to work more serenely and productively, thereby contributing to the consolidation of the creative economy sector's contribution to the national economy.
