The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries is expanding the export market for Indonesian fishery products to Vietnam, South Korea and Canada. This is marked by an increase in the number of approval numbers for fish processing units, which has been formalised by a Bilateral Agreement on Fish Quality System Equivalence with the quality authorities of the three countries. The approval numbers for exports to Vietnam have increased by 20, to South Korea by eight, and to Canada by six. As a result of the recent increase in the number of approved fish processing units, the total number of fisheries companies with export licences to Vietnam is now 611, to South Korea is 667, and to Canada is 337.
In view of the present global trade situation, Indonesia must take decisive action by diversifying its export commodities and target countries. This will increase export volumes and directly impact community economic activities. The ministry is also implementing market expansion strategies, including cross-sectoral synergies, to promote quality certifications to meet global standards. The strategy is also reinforced by inspections and surveillance, enhanced testing capacity and networks with target countries.
