In the first quarter of 2025, national fisheries production reached 5.58 million tonnes, growing by 2.0 % over the same period the previous year. This surge was largely thanks to a 3.0 % increase in fish farming, while seaweed rose by 2.2 % and capture fisheries by 0.7%. The Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, highlighted that the export market share also strengthened: the export value of marine and fisheries products grew by 6.5 %, export volume increased by 2.3 %, and non-tax state revenue from the MPA rose by 13 % until June 2025.
Fisheries sector welfare indicators are also improving. The fishermen's exchange rate (NTN) as of May 2025 rose by 1.8 %, while the fish farmers' exchange rate (NTPi) increased by 1.4 % from the previous year. This trend shows that farmers and cultivators are getting better prices, encouraging continued investment and optimism to expand exports. This total increase reflects the positive momentum of the transformation of Indonesia's fisheries sector, which is increasingly shifting towards aquaculture, while strengthening its contribution to the national economy and state finances.
