CPO One of the Largest Contributors to Indonesia's Export Performance, Here's the Data

Indonesia's crude palm oil (CPO) export performance still shows a significant contribution to the trade balance until May 2025. BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services, Pudji Ismartini, explained that throughout January-May 2025, the value of CPO exports reached USD 8.90 billion or around IDR 144.1 trillion with a volume of 8.30 million tons. "The main destination countries for CPO exports from January to May 2025 are Pakistan, India and China," said Pudji during a press conference at the BPS Head Office, Tuesday (1/7). When viewed on a monthly basis, in May 2025 the value of CPO exports was recorded at USD 1.85 billion. This value increased significantly, namely 61.50% on a monthly basis (month-to-month). The trend of CPO exports in recent years has fluctuated. In 2024, the value of CPO exports was recorded at USD 20.05 billion with a volume decreasing to 21.64 million tons. This condition reflects the dynamics of the international market, including the policies of importing countries and fluctuations in global commodity prices.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's trade balance performance in May 2025 again recorded a surplus. Throughout May, the trade balance had a surplus of USD 4.30 billion. This figure is higher than the previous month and the same month last year. "In May 2025, the trade balance still recorded a surplus of USD 4.30 billion," said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services, Pudji Ismartini at the BPS Head Office, Tuesday (1/7). Pudji explained that Indonesia's export value in the May period was recorded at USD 24.61 billion or up 9.68% compared to May 2024. The value of non-oil and gas exports in May 2025 reached USD 23.50 billion, up 11.80% compared to May 2024 which was valued at USD 21.02 billion. Meanwhile, the value of oil and gas exports during May 2025 was recorded at USD 1.1 billion, down 21.71% compared to May 2024 which was recorded at USD 1.42 billion. Cumulatively, the total export value throughout January-May 2025 increased by 6.98% annually. In January-May 2025, total exports were recorded at USD 111.98 billion, while in January-May 2024 they were recorded at USD 104.67 billion.
